It sounds like a joke, but it's not... a pair of Bald Eagles have nested and laid eggs in Ed Smith Stadium (the Orioles' spring training home), and officials are worried that once the eggs hatch, it could jeopardize the completion of the current $24MM renovation project.
The project is supposed to be completed by the time spring training opens in late February, and the contractors were already running a behind schedule. Since the birds are a national symbol and endangered, both state and federal laws prohibit disturbing them in their nesting habitat. They're up in a light tower in right field and aren't currently causing any problems, but once the eggs hatch, stadium officials "fear additional complications".
Thought this was interesting enough to mention... who would've thought that there were bald eagles in freakin' Sarasota?
