Lots and lots of information here, as on Friday the USA Today posted some organizational analysis on the Orioles:
Organizational report: Orioles' Showalter gets jump on 2011
Some of the highlights:
Andy MacPhail; About the Budget
"We have some flexibility financially, which is something that is desirable. You always want to give yourself some room to make improvements from year to year."
About the Offense
"We would like to improve the offense... Our pitching came on, particularly in the last two months of the season, but we think the offense needs to be beefed up some...We have made no secret of the fact that we've talked about growing the arms and buying the bats. If we can get someone that is a legitimate middle-of-the-lineup hitter, that would be our first goal."
About the Pitching
"Despite the fact that we like the arms in our system, we'd still probably like to be looking for a veteran-type guy."
USA Today; About Manny Machado
"The Orioles selected Machado, 18, with the third overall pick in the 2010 draft and signed him to a $5.25 million signing bonus... The high school phenom from Miami drew comparisons to Alex Rodriguez with his size, power and arm strength. The Orioles hope the high school product can grow into a Miguel Tejada- or Cal Ripken Jr.-type player and reach the majors in 2014-15."
USA Today; About Zach Britton
"Britton, the organization's top pitching prospect and its minor league pitcher of the year last season, is on the cusp of making the parent club. If he doesn't make the 25-man roster this spring, he will most likely be brought up sometime during the season... Britton has a fastball in the low to mid-90s with a good breaking ball. He has the chance to become a middle-of-the-rotation starter who goes deep into games and consistently racks up 200-plus innings."
